Mornings

I wrote this song late last night and my friend Blythe Gruda came by and recorded it.

I also sang a version of it, and you can listen to that here:

Lyrics

Mornings
Music and Lyrics by David J. Hahn

My hands just pound the ground
Useless and empty
It’s funny how things change without you around

I’ve found a time of day that helps me forget
About our mornings
When your hair would hang like rain

It’s at night by the light
Of the cars taking their parade
Then morning seems far away

If I’ve learned anything
From the time you’ve been away
It’s that I can live my life alone

But those mornings take me
Twist me, misshape me
‘Til I cannot bear the light

But instead of sleeping through
I try to be glad that I found you
‘Cause mornings come everyday

So though I prefer to see the night
I’m starting again to trust the light
It’s funny how things change without you around

If my life is different now
I’m sure it’s for the best
‘Cause grateful’s not a word I used to use

Yes I’m grateful for you
Yes but grateful and blue
‘Cause mornings will never be the same
