I haven’t put gas into my car for 3 weeks. In fact, I haven’t even moved my car in 4 days. I should probably go start it up tomorrow just to make sure it keeps working.
I’ve been biking to work lately and I think it’s fantastic. At first I had to work out clothes and how to not smell once I got to work, but I figured it out. I’ll explain that some other time. I also had to figure out what route to take – something without a lot of cars and smooth pavement (there’s lot of cobblestone in this old mid-Atlantic town). Now that I have the hang of it, it’s working out great.
I think the caveman side of me likes to be outdoors everyday, even if just for a short while. The 2 mile ride to and from work takes me through and urban area, over water and into our residential neighborhood. I love how biking brings you through different smells – restaurants, salt water, bon fires and charcoal grills – and makes you appreciate different times of day more. The air feels different in the morning than in the afternoon. And riding everyday makes changes in weather much more intimate and important.
The weather flipped a few days go into autumn here. Suddenly went from a high of 93 to a high of 73. That’s around the time I started to smell bon fires, but only at night. The crisper weather is much nicer to bike in – 93 was much too warm.
